“Canada’s Unions: We Build, We Care, We Fight” is the rallying cry for the upcoming CLC 31st Constitutional Convention in Winnipeg. This event will take place from May 11 to 15, 2026. It will gather thousands of union delegates to address pressing worker issues amid economic uncertainty.
The convention will focus on protecting good jobs and addressing affordability. It aims to amplify the voices of more than three million workers across Canada. The event represents a significant moment for the labour movement as unions mark 70 years of collective strength.
Winnipeg’s recent fire response highlights the city’s public service commitment. Firefighters responded to seven fires in just over 24 hours, demonstrating their readiness and effectiveness. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these incidents.
In another aspect of public services, residents are reminded that the summer water meter reading program starts on May 4 and ends on August 28. Gilbert Fillion, Superintendent of Meters, emphasized its importance: “It’s important to submit regular water meter readings. This helps us bill more accurately.”
The convention’s setting in Winnipeg adds local significance. The RBC Convention Centre will serve as the venue for this crucial gathering. Delegates will discuss strategies to strengthen worker protections and enhance public services amidst ongoing challenges.
As the convention approaches, discussions around key topics such as job security and affordability are expected to intensify. Union leaders anticipate that outcomes from this event could shape future policies affecting workers nationwide.
