Taleaana Ramirez’s extraordinary batting average could potentially set a new state record this season in high school softball. She is currently hitting .800 with impressive statistics that highlight her performance.
Key statistics:
- 38 runs scored in 13 games
- 24 RBIs
- 18 extra-base hits
- 28 stolen bases
Ramirez, a standout player from Crete-Monee, has already made history by setting the program career record with 112 stolen bases last May. This season, she has six doubles, six triples, and six home runs. Coach Charles Simmons praised her work ethic and noted that she has been performing at a higher level than ever before.
Currently, the state record for batting average is held by Emily Crompton at .768, set in 2018. If Ramirez maintains her current pace, she could surpass this mark. Skylar Welcome ranks 15th on the state list with a batting average of .684.
Ramirez expressed surprise at her success but emphasized her dedication to improving her hitting skills. “I’m a little surprised, but I do put a lot of work into hitting,” she stated. Coach Simmons added, “It’s to the point where I’m surprised when she doesn’t get on base.” This kind of consistency is rare and speaks to her talent.
The competition remains fierce as Manteno’s softball team recently faced Peoria Notre Dame, winning 6-3, but suffered losses to Benet and Yorkville in the Battle at the Brickyard.
The season continues to unfold with many games left for Ramirez to possibly break the state record. Fans and teammates alike are eager to see if she can maintain this remarkable performance throughout the year.
