Selena Gomez will star in Brady Corbet’s film ‘The Origin of the World’. Production is set to begin in July 2026, with filming locations in Portugal and South Africa.
The film is currently in pre-production. It features a script that spans 200 pages and tackles immigration issues in Northern California over 150 years, focusing primarily on the 1970s. Reports suggest that the film may be X-rated and could have a runtime of four hours.
Brady Corbet, known for his previous films like ‘The Childhood of a Leader’ and ‘Vox Lux’, has made a name for himself in the industry. His last project, ‘The Brutalist’, earned 10 Oscar nominations and won three awards.
Corbet described the new film as exploring “American mysticism and the history of the occult in America.” He stated, “I’ve been reading tons and tons of material about the migration of the cultist belief systems and structures.” This thematic focus adds depth to the narrative.
Filming will consist of two shoots lasting 25 days each, covering 100 pages of script. Yet, no studio is currently attached to this ambitious project.
Gomez continues to build her acting credentials. She is also Emmy-nominated for her role in ‘Only Murders in the Building’. The anticipated release date for ‘The Origin of the World’ is set for 2027.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional cast members or specific production timelines. However, fans eagerly await further announcements as production approaches.
