The French Ministry of Health is finalizing a project to develop the extrahospital emergency medical care system for 2026-2030. This initiative seeks to improve urgent care services, which currently meet less than 10% of urgent needs.
The new emergency system will leverage information technology and digital transformation. The average response time for prehospital emergencies ranges from 10 to 20 minutes. Yet, only 15% of patients receive timely assistance within 20 to 60 minutes.
Despite these challenges, the survival rate for patients in critical situations has improved. Moreover, 91% of calls received by emergency call centers get a quick response. The most common prehospital emergencies include strokes, respiratory failures, and trauma from road accidents.
Currently, there is no national coordination for prehospital emergency care. Observers expect this new project will address these coordination issues and enhance overall service delivery. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific technologies that will be implemented or how funding will be allocated.
