Garrett VanDusen received his first Canadian Screen Awards nomination for producing The 13th Wife: Escaping Polygamy, Part 1. This recognition highlights the challenges of producing high-quality television on a tight budget. The awards ceremony will take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, 2026.
VanDusen has worked his way up in the industry, starting as a production assistant. He now serves as a production manager and line producer. He commented on his nomination, saying, “We told a very unique story that was a real-life cut from the headlines story.” This statement reflects his commitment to storytelling despite financial constraints.
The CW Network recently announced it will air all NXT Premium Live Events (PLEs) exclusively in the US. Over the next several years, The CW plans to broadcast 20 NXT PLEs live. NXT has aired weekly since 2012 and showcases WWE’s next generation of talent. Brad Schwartz from The CW stated, “WWE NXT has energized our Tuesday nights by consistently delivering a loyal and passionate fanbase to The CW every week.” Shawn Michaels added that The CW has played an integral role in raising the profile of up-and-coming Superstars.
In addition to VanDusen’s achievement, Apple TV series Pluribus, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and Mr. Scorsese received six nominations for the Gotham Television Awards. These awards will be held on June 1, 2026. Apple TV debuted in 2019 with original shows and films and has since garnered significant acclaim, with a total of 800 wins and 3,437 nominations across various award shows.
Producing quality television remains challenging in today’s landscape. Yet, creators like VanDusen continue to push boundaries despite budget limitations. His nomination serves as an encouragement for others facing similar hurdles in the industry.
