The wider picture
This isn’t the first time Windows 11 updates have caused problems. Recently, users have reported significant access issues to the C:\ drive on Samsung laptops after installing the February 2026 security updates. The error message “C:\ is not accessible – Access denied” has become a common frustration among affected users, particularly those using the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 and other Samsung consumer devices running Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2.
The issue has primarily been reported in regions such as Brazil, Portugal, South Korea, and India. Users have expressed their concerns over the functionality of their devices, as the inability to access the C:\ drive can severely hinder productivity. Microsoft is currently investigating the issue in collaboration with Samsung but has not yet provided an official fix.
Reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Connect app may be linked to the C:\ drive access problem. In response to the situation, the Galaxy Connect app was temporarily removed from the Microsoft Store to prevent further complications. Microsoft has confirmed that the issue is not directly caused by Windows updates but rather by Samsung software, which adds another layer of complexity to the resolution process.
Additionally, the KB5079473 update has been noted to cause crashes and freezes for some Windows 11 users, although Microsoft has not yet confirmed a widespread issue with this update. The company typically monitors feedback after each update release, and users are encouraged to report any anomalies they experience.
As the situation develops, Microsoft continues to work closely with Samsung to understand the issue and prevent similar problems in the future. Affected Samsung models include NP750XGJ, NP750XGL, NP754XGJ, NP754XFG, NP754XGK, DM500SGA, DM500TDA, DM500TGA, and DM501SGA. Observers are hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon, allowing users to regain full access to their devices.
