What happened?
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games are set to take place from March 6 to March 15, 2026. This edition will feature approximately 665 athletes from around 50 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs), competing in various sports including Para alpine skiing, Para biathlon, Para cross-country skiing, Para ice hockey, Para snowboard, and wheelchair curling.
Why it matters?
The Games are significant as they showcase the best of Para sport, providing a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills and resilience. Notably, Team Estonia will be represented by a mixed doubles wheelchair curling team, Team Riidebach/Villau, which secured its spot through a series of crucial victories at the 2025 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. Additionally, Canada has nominated eight Para alpine skiers, including seasoned competitors like Mollie Jepsen, who aims to enjoy her third Games experience after achieving her lifelong goal of becoming a Paralympic champion in 2022.

The German delegation, featuring many debutants, aims to build on their success from the Beijing 2022 Games, where they won 61 medals.
