Severe Weather Conditions Affecting Vancouver

On the Coquihalla Highway, conditions have deteriorated rapidly, leading to multiple crashes and subsequent closures. Drivers faced long delays, with some reporting being stuck in traffic for up to 3 hours. Ambulances were dispatched to a motor vehicle incident located 5 kilometres south of the Helmer Road exit, where 3 patients were treated at the scene.
As conditions changed quickly along the Coquihalla route, drivers encountered a mix of snow, rain, slush, and ice, creating hazardous travel conditions. Tanya Croft from Environment Canada noted, “Strong winds and heavy snow are causing downed power lines, trees contacting power lines and infrastructure damage.”
In addition to the immediate effects, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of B.C., indicating that the situation could evolve further. Amanda Horner remarked, “We have hit all kinds of weather,” reflecting the unpredictable nature of the current conditions.
