The film ‘They Will Kill You’, directed by Kirill Sokolov, is set to captivate audiences with its unique blend of action, horror, and comedy. The narrative unfolds in a mysterious residential building in New York City known as the Virgil, where a chilling story involving a Satanic cult takes center stage.
In the film, Zazie Beetz portrays the character Asia Reaves, who assumes a false identity to work as a housekeeper. The plot thickens when Asia’s battle begins after a cultist sneaks into her living quarters, leading to a series of over-the-top violent confrontations.
The inspiration for the film’s premise stems from Sokolov’s personal experiences living in a Russian apartment building, where he felt an unsettling tension that he later described as akin to a cult threatening to come for him. “This tension grew and grew, and my wife and I started to joke that it’s a cult that would come for us at some point,” Sokolov remarked.
Produced by New Line Cinema under the Nocturna banner, ‘They Will Kill You’ is categorized as an R-rated film due to its graphic violence and gore. The film features a notable action sequence involving a flaming axe, showcasing the intense and thrilling nature of the storyline.
Safety precautions were a priority during the filming of action sequences, ensuring the well-being of the cast. Sokolov noted the challenges faced during production, including the need for a fireproof wig for Beetz due to the dangerous stunts involved. “Zazie had a huge haircut, and any spark would leave a hole in her hair. So we built a fireproof wig to protect her real hair,” he explained.
As the film approaches its release date on March 25, 2026, anticipation continues to build around its unique premise and engaging characters. The character of Lilith Woodhouse, the leader of the cult, adds an additional layer of intrigue to the narrative.
While the film promises to deliver a thrilling experience, details remain unconfirmed regarding its reception and potential impact on the horror-comedy genre. Audiences are eager to see how Sokolov’s vision translates to the screen and whether it will resonate with viewers looking for a fresh take on horror.
