Snowfall Warning Issued
“Environment Canada warns that roads, sidewalks, and pathways will become difficult to navigate,” officials stated as they issued a snowfall warning for Calgary.
Heavy snowfall of 10 to 20 centimetres is expected, with the storm anticipated to begin Sunday morning and peak through the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are projected to fall to around -3 degrees Celsius by Sunday afternoon, with wind chill making it feel as cold as -10 degrees Celsius.
As the storm progresses, an additional 5 to 10 centimetres of snow may accumulate on Sunday night. Visibility is expected to be significantly reduced during the heaviest snowfall, prompting safety concerns for drivers.
“Local utility outages are possible. High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind,” warned meteorologists, as wind gusts between 90 and 110 km/h are also forecasted. While power outages have been reported in other parts of Alberta, as of the latest update, no outages have been confirmed in Calgary.
Residents are advised to allow extra time for travel and to adjust to the changing conditions. The storm is expected to taper off early Monday morning, but the impact of the snowfall may linger.
“Secure loose objects,” officials advised, as strong winds could pose additional hazards. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds could lead to challenging conditions for both pedestrians and drivers alike.
As the city prepares for the storm, authorities are urging residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the storm’s impact, but residents are encouraged to remain vigilant as the weather develops.
