Saint Patrick’s Day 2026 will be marked by Montreal’s 201st St. Patrick’s Day parade, scheduled for March 22, 2026. This year, the parade will feature an impressive 92 groups, including 15 marching bands and six dance groups, showcasing the rich Irish heritage that has become a significant part of Montreal’s cultural fabric.
The parade will kick off at noon at the corner of Guy Street and De Maisonneuve Boulevard, a location that has become synonymous with the city’s annual celebrations. Lori Morrison, a representative of the United Irish Societies of Montreal, stated, “Our parade has become an annual destination,” emphasizing its importance to both locals and visitors alike. Morrison added, “Each year, the Montreal St. Patrick’s Day parade attracts people from across our city and from around the world.”
The theme for this year’s parade is “little shamrocks, big dreams,” a nod to the symbolism of the shamrock in Irish culture, which represents the Holy Trinity. Wearing green, a well-known custom associated with St. Patrick’s Day, will be prevalent as attendees celebrate their Irish heritage. Leslie Roberts, another spokesperson, remarked, “Celebrating St. Patrick is also celebrating Montreal — a city known for its diversity.”
Historically, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1601, marking the beginning of a tradition that has grown globally. The holiday began as a religious feast day in the early 17th century, honoring Saint Patrick, who was not originally Irish but was captured and brought to Ireland as a slave at age 16.
In addition to the parade, various events will take place throughout the city. For instance, The Dust Rhinos will perform on March 12, 2026, at the West End Cultural Centre, and the Irish Association of Manitoba will host an all-day St. Patrick’s Day party on March 17, 2026. The People’s St. Paddy’s Day Fun Run will also feature registration fees of $66 for races and $13 for the kid’s run.
Ticket prices for The Dust Rhinos concert will range from $25 to $30, making it an accessible option for those looking to enjoy the festivities. As the date approaches, the excitement within the community continues to build, with many looking forward to the vibrant celebrations that characterize this beloved holiday.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional events or special guests that may be announced as the celebrations draw nearer. However, the anticipation for the parade and associated activities is palpable, promising a lively atmosphere filled with music, dance, and community spirit.
