Ice Rain Warning Issued for Quebec
An ice rain warning has been issued by Environment Canada for several sectors in central and eastern Quebec. The warning highlights the potential for hazardous conditions as the episode of ice rain is expected to affect regions including northern Mauricie, Quebec City, Charlevoix, the Laurentians wildlife reserve, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and the Côte-Nord.
According to forecasts, nearly 2 millimeters of ice rain is anticipated, with southern Quebec expecting up to 10 millimeters of rain on Saturday. This accumulation poses a risk for roads and sidewalks, which are likely to become icy and slippery.
Environment Canada stated, “We expect nearly 2 millimeters of ice rain. Roads and sidewalks will likely become icy and slippery.” The warning indicates that the risk of ice rain is highest on Saturday morning across several regions.
In addition to the ice rain, total rainfall accumulations may reach 25 millimeters in the Outaouais and the Capitale-Nationale, while other regions could see up to 20 millimeters.
Temperatures are projected to rise in the latter part of Saturday, suggesting that the layer of ice may not persist throughout the day. This seasonal phenomenon, known as ice rain, is a classic winter occurrence in Quebec, which has been relatively subdued this season.
As residents prepare for the impending weather, authorities are urging caution on the roads. Observers expect that the conditions may lead to disruptions in travel and daily activities.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the extent of the impacts, but the situation will be monitored closely as the weather develops.
