Netflix Confirms Third Season of One Piece
Netflix has confirmed that the live-action adaptation of One Piece will return for a third season, following the series’ remarkable success since its premiere in summer 2023. The show attracted nearly 40 million views in less than two weeks and spent eight weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10, debuting at number one in 46 regions.
The first two seasons of One Piece have received a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating strong critical acclaim. Season one introduced audiences to Monkey D. Luffy and the initial members of the Straw Hat Pirates, while season two took the crew through significant locations such as Reverse Mountain, Whisky Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island.
Each season of the live-action series compresses approximately 45 episodes of the original anime, which boasts over 1,000 episodes in total. This adaptation has been praised for its ability to translate beloved manga and anime stories into a live-action format.
Creator Eiichiro Oda has a clear vision for the live-action series’ ending, and there is speculation that the Netflix series could conclude before the original anime. The first episode of season three is titled “Where There’s Smoke,” written by Ashley Wigfield and directed by Christoph Schrewe.
Netflix has expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season, with a spokesperson stating, “Season 3 set sails soon.” Cast members have also indicated a desire to maintain a rapid production pace. Emily Rudd mentioned, “I think we’re all keen to move at a pace that is as quick as humanly possible, so that’s what we’re doing,” while Taz Skylar acknowledged the pressure to deliver new content swiftly.
As fans eagerly await the next installment, the adaptation continues to build on its successful foundation, with expectations high for future seasons. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact release date for season three, but the momentum from the previous seasons suggests a promising continuation of the story.
