The City of North Bay has issued a Significant Weather Event declaration effective March 16 at 2:30 p.m. This declaration comes in response to adverse weather conditions impacting local infrastructure and travel.
As a result of the declaration, ten roads in North Bay, including Marsh Drive, Gregory Drive, and Besserer Road, are experiencing reduced maintenance standards. The City has stated, “Due to adverse weather conditions and the OPP closure of Highway 11 North, the City of North Bay is currently unable to service municipal roads located off Highway 11.” This closure has significantly affected the city’s ability to maintain typical road conditions.
Residents are advised to expect reduced winter road maintenance while the Significant Weather Event remains in effect. Motorists are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during this period, as conditions may pose risks to safety.
Forecasts indicate that local snowfall amounts could reach 5 cm, with temperatures dropping significantly. Tonight’s low is expected to be -18°C, while wind chill factors could make it feel as cold as -28°C overnight.
Looking ahead, Tuesday’s high temperature is predicted to be -10°C, with a low of -21°C expected that night. The weather is expected to remain cold, with Wednesday’s high reaching only -4°C and a low of -5°C. By Thursday, temperatures may rise slightly to a high of 2°C, but nighttime lows will still drop to -9°C.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions evolve. Residents are advised to stay informed about the weather and travel advisories to ensure their safety during this significant weather event.
