What Happened
Thousands of Nissan Rogue vehicles are being recalled in Canada due to significant engine problems. The recall affects over 600,000 vehicles from the 2023 to 2025 model years, specifically those equipped with the 1.5-liter variable-compression turbo engines. This recall is the result of two separate notices issued by Transport Canada and reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Why It Matters
The recalls are critical as they address serious safety concerns. The first recall, impacting approximately 323,917 vehicles, relates to the engine control module (ECM) software, which can lead to high engine oil temperatures. This may result in bearing seizure, engine failure, or even engine fires in rare cases. The second recall affects 318,781 vehicles and involves a potential failure in the throttle body assembly, which could lead to a loss of power and prevent the vehicle from moving.
What’s Next
Dealers are expected to reprogram the ECM software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and conduct test drives to ensure vehicle safety. Additionally, they may inspect the oil pan for metal debris and replace the engine if necessary. Owner notification letters are anticipated to be mailed by March 27, informing affected individuals of the necessary steps to take.
