What Happened
Nissan has announced two separate recalls affecting a total of 642,698 Nissan Rogue SUVs from the 2023 to 2025 model years. Both recalls pertain to issues with the vehicles’ 1.5-liter three-cylinder VC Turbo engines, which have been linked to potential safety hazards.
Why It Matters
The first recall addresses a problem with the electronic throttle chamber (ETC) assembly. Faulty engine control module (ECM) software may lead to a weakening and fracturing of the gear in the ETC, resulting in a loss of power and preventing the driver from engaging forward or reverse gears during a restart. This poses significant safety risks for drivers and other road users.
The second recall is related to engine bearing failures, which have been exacerbated by high engine oil temperatures. This condition can degrade oil lubricity, potentially causing bearings to seize and leading to engine damage or failure. Vehicles previously repaired under a prior recall will also require this new remedy.
What’s Next
Nissan will notify affected vehicle owners by mail, instructing them to bring their SUVs to authorized dealerships for necessary repairs. The first recall, involving software updates, is expected to be a straightforward fix, while the second recall may require more extensive repairs. Owners are urged to stay informed about the recalls to ensure their safety on the road.
