Nazem Kadri Trade Update
On March 6, 2026, Nazem Kadri was traded from the Calgary Flames to the Colorado Avalanche, marking a significant moment in his career. This move comes after Kadri’s successful stint with the Flames, where he recorded 12 goals and 29 assists in 61 games this season.
In exchange for Kadri, the Flames received a conditional 2028 first-round pick, a conditional 2027 second-round draft pick, forward Victor Olofsson, and the rights to forward Max Curran. Notably, Calgary will retain 20 percent of Kadri’s salary, which has a cap hit of $7 million and runs through the 2028-29 season.
Kadri’s history with the Avalanche is significant; he previously won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2022. Over his career, he has played 1,046 games, scoring 319 goals and accumulating 751 points. His experience and skill are expected to bolster the Avalanche’s lineup as they aim for playoff success.
Victor Olofsson, who joins the Flames, has had a productive season with 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 60 games. Meanwhile, Max Curran has been impressive in junior hockey, tallying 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists) in just 31 games for the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Following the trade, Kadri expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “These deals aren’t easy to come by. You have to have two working parties. At the end of the day I found out pretty late and I was excited, to say the least.” He also thanked the Flames for their handling of the situation, indicating a positive relationship with his former team.
Kadri remarked, “I mean, is this real? For me, it’s a very exciting situation,” highlighting his enthusiasm for returning to the Avalanche. He acknowledged the Flames’ potential for future success, saying, “Without them this couldn’t be possible, and there’s no doubt in my mind in a couple years the Calgary Flames are going to be a popular destination to play in.”
Calgary’s General Manager, Conroy, emphasized the importance of the trade, stating, “The whole thing is to get back in the playoffs, to get going in the right direction and have these assets and the picks.” This trade not only impacts Kadri’s career but also sets the stage for the Flames’ future strategy.
As the NHL season progresses, both Kadri and the Flames will be looking to capitalize on this trade, with Kadri aiming to make a significant impact on the Avalanche’s playoff aspirations.
