Mohamed Bekkali, 24, has been fined $228 for insulting a police officer in Montreal last summer, marking another chapter in his ongoing confrontations with law enforcement. This incident occurred after Bekkali filmed himself hurling misogynistic and degrading insults at the officer who issued him a ticket for having tinted windows.
According to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), the insults included phrases such as “sale pute de merde” and “fils de pute.” Vicky Powell, a local resident, has since filed a complaint against Bekkali for his threatening remarks, emphasizing that such behavior is an obstruction to police work.
In addition to this recent fine, Bekkali has a history of legal issues, including several speeding tickets and a previous conviction in 2020 for using false documents to commit a crime. He pleaded guilty and received an unconditional discharge in June 2025.
The SPVM has stated that they possess no coercive power when insulted, and there are currently no regulations in Montreal that prohibit insults directed at police officers during their duties. This has raised concerns among law enforcement and community leaders alike.
François Lemay, a representative from the Fédération des policiers et policières du Québec (FPMQ), commented on the situation, stating, “C’est carrément inacceptable qu’au Québec on tolère des actes de violence verbale envers des agents de la paix.”
As Bekkali continues to face scrutiny for his actions, observers are left to wonder how this will affect his future interactions with law enforcement and whether further legal consequences will arise.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional charges or actions that may be taken against Bekkali in light of his recent behavior.
