Jamie Bell will take on the role of Duke Shelby in the upcoming sequel series of Peaky Blinders, which is set to premiere in April 2026. The new series will consist of two six-episode seasons, marking a significant continuation of the acclaimed franchise.
The sequel series is set ten years after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which was released on March 20, 2026. This new era of Peaky Blinders is situated in the early 1950s, a time characterized by the aftermath of World War Two and the challenges of rebuilding Birmingham.
Filming for the series is currently underway in and around Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham. The production is a collaboration between Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama for the BBC and Netflix, ensuring a wide reach for the series.
In addition to Jamie Bell, the cast includes notable actors such as Charlie Heaton, Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski. The character Duke Shelby was previously portrayed by Barry Keoghan in the sequel film, adding a layer of continuity to the storyline.
Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, expressed his enthusiasm for the new series, stating, “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s.” He further elaborated on the narrative, indicating that the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions.
The original Peaky Blinders series premiered on BBC Two in 2013 and later moved to BBC One in 2019. It gained critical acclaim, winning the BAFTA for Best Drama Series for its fourth season in 2018. The enduring popularity of the series has led to high expectations for its sequel.
As the production progresses, fans of the franchise are eager for more exciting cast announcements and developments. Knight has hinted, “There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.” Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional plot elements and character arcs, but the anticipation continues to build.
