What Happened
Scattered lake effect snow continues to impact areas east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, with localized bursts of heavier snow reported. This weather phenomenon has resulted in reduced visibility in traditional snowbelt communities. However, it is anticipated that the snow activity will weaken and shift offshore before the Thursday morning commute, minimizing impacts on school transportation.
Why It Matters
For the majority of Southern Ontario, school transportation disruptions are expected to be minimal by daybreak. Nonetheless, there remains a possibility of surprise cancellations, particularly in the Bruce Peninsula under the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB), where a 25 percent chance of bus cancellations has been assigned due to potential lingering snow squalls. Other areas, including those under the Avon Maitland District School Board and the Simcoe County District School Board, are unlikely to see cancellations, although they cannot be entirely ruled out.
What’s Next
Residents are advised to plan for extra travel time and consider using public transit as snow-clearing crews work to maintain safe conditions on roads, sidewalks, and bus stops in Toronto. Warming Centres are currently open to assist those affected by the cold weather. As the situation develops, updates on school closures and weather conditions will be provided.
