A weather system began sweeping across Quebec on Monday evening, bringing strong winds that have left more than 315,000 homes without power. The winds, with gusts reaching up to 120 kilometres per hour in some areas, have particularly impacted regions including Montérégie, Lanaudière, Laurentians, Montreal, Laval, and Capitale-Nationale.
As of 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, significant outages were reported, with 39,732 customers in Montreal, 76,778 in Montérégie, 13,884 in Laval, and 34,191 in Laurentians still without electricity. Hydro-Québec has dispatched over 1,100 workers to restore power to affected areas.
Hydro-Québec stated, “Strong winds are currently affecting large parts of Québec, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h and as high as 120 km/h in some areas.” The utility company is actively working to address the outages and restore service as quickly as possible.
Quebec Premier François Legault noted, “So everybody is going to get some high winds at some point during the day and maybe [the] evening for the eastern part of the province.” This indicates that the weather conditions may continue to pose challenges throughout the day.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to stay safe and prepare for potential further disruptions. The restoration efforts are expected to continue as conditions allow.
As the storm progresses, Hydro-Québec will provide updates on the status of power restoration and any additional outages that may occur. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the damage and the timeline for complete restoration of power across the affected regions.
