“These winds cause power outages,” said a representative from Environment Canada, highlighting the severe weather conditions affecting Quebec.
As of Tuesday morning, more than 200,000 homes were reported without power due to high winds sweeping across the province. Wind gusts reached up to 90 km/h in some areas, with even stronger gusts of 120 km/h recorded in others.
Hydro-Québec has dispatched over 1,100 workers to restore power to affected areas. The Montérégie region has been hit the hardest, with more than 50,000 homes experiencing outages.
According to Hydro-Québec, approximately 39,732 customers in Montreal are currently without power. The situation is similarly dire in Montérégie, where around 76,778 customers are affected. Additional outages have been reported in Laval, with 13,884 customers without service, and 34,191 in the Laurentians.
A weather system began sweeping across the province Monday evening and continued its northeastward trajectory into Tuesday morning, causing widespread disruptions.
Hydro-Québec stated, “Strong winds are currently affecting large parts of Québec, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h and as high as 120 km/h in some areas.” The utility company is working diligently to restore power as quickly as possible.
As restoration efforts continue, residents are urged to stay informed about the situation and to report any outages to Hydro-Québec. The utility is prioritizing areas with the most significant impacts.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the expected timeline for full restoration of power across all affected regions.
