David Perron Returns to Detroit
“A familiar face is back in Detroit,” the Red Wings announced following the trade that brought David Perron back to the team from the Ottawa Senators.
Perron, who has recorded 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 49 games during the 2025-26 season, spent the last year-and-a-half with the Senators after previously logging 103 points (41 goals, 62 assists) in 158 games with the Red Wings from 2022 to 2024.
The trade, which occurred on March 5, 2026, involved a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. At the time of the trade, the Red Wings were in third place in the Atlantic Division, just three points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for the division lead.
Perron is currently on injured reserve and last played on January 20. When he is cleared to play, he will join a team that is trying to reach the playoffs.
Throughout his career, Perron has amassed a total of 809 points (329 goals, 480 assists) in 1,223 regular-season games. His experience includes 110 games of postseason play, and he notably helped the St. Louis Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019.
Originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Perron has been a significant contributor to every team he has played for. His return to Detroit is seen as a move to bolster the Red Wings’ playoff aspirations.
As the Red Wings look to solidify their position in the standings, Perron’s experience and skill will be crucial once he returns to the ice.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact timeline for Perron’s return to play, but his addition is expected to enhance the team’s performance as they aim for postseason success.
