As the winter season progresses, Big White Ski Resort in British Columbia has become a focal point for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. Just before the recent Spring Break, the resort experienced a remarkable weather event, receiving 80 cm of fresh powder. This influx of snow has significantly enhanced the skiing conditions, attracting visitors eager to take advantage of the winter sports opportunities.
By the end of the Spring Break, the resort reported a robust snow base of 77 inches (195 centimeters), with 100% of its runs open and 16 lifts operating. This operational capacity is crucial for accommodating the influx of skiers and snowboarders, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the slopes to their fullest. Michael Ballingall, a representative of the resort, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It doesn’t get better than this. What I’m really thrilled at is we’re living up to the promise.” His comments reflect the excitement surrounding the current conditions at Big White.
However, as conditions can change rapidly in mountainous regions, Ballingall also cautioned visitors to be vigilant. He advised, “Always ski with a buddy, because it literally has changed in a week.” This highlights the importance of safety in the sport, especially given the potential hazards that can arise from heavy snowfall. He further noted concerns about the risks associated with deep snow, emphasizing the need for caution: “That’s going to be a concern of ours. Even just falling in the snow and you get caught, you know, you’re underneath a foot of snow. Can’t breathe.”
As the season progresses, Big White Ski Resort is also preparing for the future with its season pass offerings. An adult season pass for the 2026-27 season is currently available for $1,059 CAD during the Price Freeze promotion, which runs until midnight on Thursday, April 30. This initiative is designed to encourage early purchases, ensuring that loyal visitors can secure their passes at a competitive price.
In addition to the adult pass, the resort offers various options for younger skiers. Youth passes for ages 13-18 are priced at $564 CAD, while children’s passes for ages 6-12 cost $414 CAD. For seniors, the Club 65 pass is available for $749 CAD. Notably, passes for children aged five and under remain at an accessible price of $39, making it easier for families to introduce their young ones to the joys of skiing.
As of now, Big White has crossed the significant milestone of 200 centimeters (79 inches) of total snowfall for the season, a testament to the favorable weather conditions that have persisted. This achievement not only enhances the skiing experience but also solidifies the resort’s reputation as a premier winter destination.
