Gas prices have lowered across Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time since late-February, with the Public Utilities Board announcing a decrease of 10 cents per litre on March 25, 2026. The maximum prices for gasoline in Newfoundland now range between $1.82 and $1.98 per litre, while in Labrador, they are set between $1.60 and $1.93 per litre.
In addition to gasoline, diesel prices have also seen a significant drop, decreasing almost 22 cents per litre in Newfoundland and 21.5 cents in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The new maximum prices for diesel in Newfoundland are now between $2.35 and $2.48 per litre, with Labrador prices ranging from $1.75 to $2.48 per litre.
Furnace oil prices have decreased by just over 19 cents per litre, while stove oil prices dropped by over 18.6 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. These reductions come as a relief to residents who have been facing rising fuel costs.
Residents have expressed their concerns regarding the volatility of fuel prices, with many demanding greater transparency from the Public Utilities Board. Terry O’Neill, a local resident, noted, “It’s got to be a strain on just about everybody,” highlighting the financial pressure that fluctuating prices impose on households.
O’Neill further stated, “A lot of them are saying, you know, enough is enough, right? They’re sort of demanding that the Public Utilities Board or the government step in and stop this ridiculous instability.” He emphasized the cascading effect of price increases, saying, “When [an increase] happens, there’s a snowballing effect. Everything else increases.”
Prior to this decrease, gas prices had not fallen since February 20, 2026, leaving consumers anxious about the rising costs of living. The recent adjustments may provide some temporary relief, but the long-term stability of fuel prices remains uncertain.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding future price trends and potential interventions by the Public Utilities Board or government authorities to address consumer concerns.
