The upcoming opening of History Ottawa on August 20, 2026, is poised to significantly impact the local entertainment landscape. With a seating capacity of 2,000, the venue aims to host around 150 events annually, contributing to the revitalization of Ottawa’s entertainment district.
The inaugural performance will feature The Wallflowers, marking a notable addition to the city’s music scene. The venue’s preliminary lineup includes popular acts such as Kaleo, The Pretty Reckless, and Sabaton, indicating a diverse range of musical offerings.
Bronwyn Campbell, who has over 11 years of experience as the general manager of the Commodore Ballroom, has been appointed as the general manager of History Ottawa. She expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m thrilled to be leading the History Ottawa team.” Rob Feller, with 12 years of experience in the live music industry, will serve as the senior operations manager.
History Ottawa is an expansion of the Toronto location that opened in 2021, reflecting a growing demand for mid-size venues in the region. Ali Shafaee, a representative of the venue, noted, “We thought that the only way to be able to do that is to build a mid-size venue in Ottawa.”
This new venue is expected to not only enhance the musical offerings in Ottawa but also contribute to the reimagination of the ByWard Market area, a historic and vibrant part of the city.
With an estimated 300 full- and part-time employees, History Ottawa is set to create numerous job opportunities, further benefiting the local economy. The venue’s establishment is seen as a critical step in fostering a thriving arts and culture scene in the capital.
As the opening date approaches, details remain unconfirmed regarding additional performances and events planned for the venue. The anticipation surrounding History Ottawa suggests a promising future for live music in the city.
