“I can confirm that. These things are dynamic, they are unfolding, there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes, and we do our best to get it out three, but I want to stress that no one was injured in this incident,” stated Sgt. Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police Department.
The lockdown at Abbotsford Regional Hospital was imposed around 2:40 p.m. on March 16, 2026, following a report of a weapon. The situation escalated quickly, prompting a response from more than 30 officers who arrived at the scene to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Police received the initial call from hospital staff at approximately 2:04 p.m., reporting that they had seen a person with a gun. In response, officers conducted a thorough floor-by-floor, room-by-room search of the facility.
After approximately 40 minutes, the lockdown was lifted at around 3:20 p.m., with police confirming that no shots were fired and no injuries occurred during the incident. The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Simon Avenue and Cruickshank Street.
“AbbyPD can confirm that no one was injured during this incident and that no shots were fired, contrary to reports circulating on social media,” the police department stated.
Following the incident, the hospital resumed normal operations, and authorities reassured the public that there was no further safety risk in the area. The Abbotsford Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the weapons call.
