Service Disruptions on Line 1
“Transpo anticipates Line 1 service between Tunneyโs and Blair stations will be restored by the afternoon commute,” stated Troy Charter, a representative from OC Transpo.
Line 1 remains closed east of uOttawa station due to damage caused by freezing rain, which has disrupted service significantly. Currently, R1 replacement buses are operating between Lyon and Blair stations, while trains are running between uOttawa and Tunney’s Pasture.
Repairs to the overhead catenary system, which has been a recurring issue for the LRT network in previous years, are expected to be completed by Thursday afternoon. Electrical arcing was reported on trains between Hurdman and Lees stations, indicating the extent of the damage.
According to Charter, “Focus is now on recovering from the freezing rain storm and preparing for tomorrowโs transit service.” The damage to the overhead catenary system appears to be related to the recent weather conditions, which have also left approximately 5,000 Hydro-Quรฉbec clients without power by noon, down from 11,900 at the start of the day.
OC Transpo staff will be present at key stations to assist customers during their trips, ensuring that riders have the necessary support amid the ongoing disruptions. Despite the challenges, efforts are being made to restore full service as quickly as possible.
As repairs progress, the situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as they become available. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact timing of service restoration beyond the anticipated afternoon commute.
