Power Outages Across Southern British Columbia
As of March 12, 2026, nearly 6,800 customers are without power in Southern British Columbia due to a series of outages caused by a windstorm and motor vehicle accidents. The most affected areas include Chilliwack, Armstrong, and Enderby.
In the North Okanagan, approximately 1,600 BC Hydro customers are experiencing outages. Specifically, 976 customers between Armstrong and Enderby lost power early in the morning, while another 641 customers along Highway 97 west of Armstrong were impacted by a separate accident just before 7:30 a.m.
Chilliwack has reported 20 separate outages affecting a total of 6,796 customers. Among these, 1,653 customers south of Keith Wilson Road lost power at 9:25 p.m. the previous night, followed by 1,147 customers in Sardis at 10:07 p.m., and 864 customers north of Chilliwack Central Road at 9:30 p.m.
The outages coincide with a windstorm that has been affecting Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, where gusts have reached up to 106 km/h. This severe weather has contributed to the widespread power disruptions.
BC Hydro crews are currently working to restore power to affected customers, but details remain unconfirmed regarding the estimated time for full restoration. The situation is being monitored as further updates are expected throughout the day.
Residents are advised to stay updated through BC Hydro’s official channels and to report any downed power lines or hazardous conditions to local authorities.
