Brayden Schenn Acquired by New York Islanders
Brayden Schenn has been acquired by the New York Islanders from the St. Louis Blues in a significant trade that includes a first-round pick, a third-round pick, Jonathan Drouin, and prospect Marcus Gidlof. Schenn, who is 34 years old, waived his no-move clause to facilitate the deal.
This season, Schenn has recorded 28 points, comprising 12 goals and 16 assists, over 61 games. He is currently enjoying an impressive iron-man streak of 307 consecutive games played, showcasing his durability and commitment to the game.
Prior to the 2023-24 season, Schenn was named the 24th captain in Blues history, a role that highlighted his leadership qualities. Throughout his NHL career, he has accumulated 290 goals and 423 assists for a total of 713 points across 1,083 games.
Schenn was also a key player in the Blues’ 2019 Stanley Cup Championship team, contributing to the franchise’s first-ever title. His international experience includes winning gold medals with Canada at the 2008 Under-18 World Championships and the 2015 World Championships.
Currently, Schenn is in the sixth year of an eight-year contract with a cap hit of $6.5 million, making him a valuable asset for the Islanders as they look to strengthen their roster. Notably, Schenn’s brother, Luke, was also traded to the Buffalo Sabres at the same trade deadline, marking a significant day for the Schenn family.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how Schenn will fit into the Islanders’ lineup moving forward and what impact this trade will have on both teams as they navigate the remainder of the season.
