Ice Rain Warning Issued for Québec
An ice rain warning has been issued by Environment Canada for several areas in central and eastern Québec, with significant impacts expected this weekend.
The ice rain event is set to affect regions including northern Mauricie, Québec City, Charlevoix, the Laurentides wildlife reserve, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and the Côte-Nord. Approximately 2 millimeters of ice rain is anticipated, while southern Québec could see up to 10 millimeters of rain on Saturday.
According to Environment Canada, “On attend près de 2 millimètres de pluie verglaçante. Les routes et les trottoirs deviendront probablement glacés et glissants.” This warning highlights the potential hazards as roads and sidewalks are likely to become icy and slippery.
The highest risk for ice rain is expected on Saturday morning, particularly in regions such as Mauricie, Capitale-Nationale, Saguenay, Gaspésie, and Haute-Côte-Nord. As temperatures are forecasted to rise later in the day, the ice layer is not expected to persist throughout the day.
In addition to the ice rain, southern Québec may experience temperatures reaching 11 degrees Celsius, while areas in Outaouais and Capitale-Nationale could see rainfall totals of up to 25 millimeters. Other regions are also expected to receive around 20 millimeters of rain.
This ice rain phenomenon is a classic winter occurrence in Québec, which has been relatively subdued this season. Observers are monitoring the situation closely, as details remain unconfirmed regarding the extent of the impacts across the affected regions.
