International Women’s Day 2026 to Emphasize ‘Give To Gain’
International Women’s Day, celebrated for over 100 years, will take place on March 8, 2026, with a focus on the theme ‘Give To Gain’. This theme highlights the importance of reciprocity in creating meaningful change.
In anticipation of the main event, the Three Oaks Foundation is hosting a gathering on March 6, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event aims to engage the community in discussions and activities centered around women’s contributions and rights.
On the actual day, the Desautels Faculty of Music will present a concert titled Frauenleben: Love, Labour & Lullabies, scheduled for 2 p.m. This concert will feature music composed by women from various eras, showcasing their significant contributions to the musical landscape.
Laura Loewen, a faculty member involved in the concert, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “One of the great things about working at a university is the amazing colleagues that you have.” She emphasized the importance of exploring diverse musical works, noting, “I think it’s a really important thing in your development as a musician to be exploring this music from as many different places as you possibly can.”
Monica Huisman, another faculty member, remarked on the increasing interest in female composers among students, saying, “I’m already incredibly impressed by my students because there’s been this big surge, particularly in the last three, four years.” This reflects a growing recognition of women’s roles in music and the arts.
International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing progress towards gender equality and the need for continued advocacy. The events planned for 2026 aim to inspire and empower individuals to take action in their communities.
As the date approaches, further details about the events and participation opportunities are expected to be confirmed. Observers are keen to see how these initiatives will foster dialogue and promote women’s rights in various spheres of life.
