Curling Brier Set for St. John’s
The 2026 curling brier is set to take place in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from February 27 to March 8, 2026. This event will mark the final appearance of Canadian curling legend Brad Gushue, who will enjoy the advantage of competing on home ice.
Gushue’s team finished Pool A with an impressive 8-0 record, while fellow competitor Brad Jacobs from Canada secured a 7-1 finish in the same pool. In Pool B, Alberta’s Kevin Koe dominated with a 7-0 record, and Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone followed closely with a 6-1 finish.
The top three teams from each pool will qualify for the Page Playoffs, which will determine the semifinal and final matchups. Gushue’s performance has been particularly notable, as he recently defeated Jacobs’ team 4-2, showcasing his skill and experience.
The atmosphere at the Mary Brown’s Centre has been electric, with a crowd of 6,100 fans witnessing the thrilling matches. Gushue himself remarked on the intensity of the games, stating, “It felt the intensity of a playoff game, at least from our standpoint.” He also expressed surprise at how well he felt during the competition.
Jayden King’s Ontario team finished with a 5-3 record and expressed a desire to embrace the underdog role, with King stating, “We like kind of having our backs against the wall and being the Cinderella story of the event.” This sentiment adds an intriguing layer to the competition as teams vie for the championship.
As the curling brier approaches, observers are eager to see how Gushue will perform in his final tournament and whether he can secure a victory on home soil. The excitement surrounding this event continues to build as the start date nears.
