Anthropic informed Mashable in a statement that their team is actively addressing the issue, stating:
Claude is presently not accessible on our consumer-oriented platforms like claude.ai and our applications. However, the Claude API that supports businesses continues to operate normally. Our team is actively working to restore complete service, and we will provide updates as they become available. We thank everyone for their understanding as we strive to get everything back online while managing an unprecedented surge in demand for Claude over the past week.
User Patience Appreciated
"We have found that certain API functions are malfunctioning and are currently looking into the issue," the company stated on the Claude status page, regarding all matters except for Claude Opus 4.6. Concerning that particular LLM, Anthropic merely mentioned, "The problem has been recognized and a solution is in progress."

The level of “unprecedented demand” that Anthropic referred to in their conversation with Mashable is indeed accurate. This disruption follows Claude’s rise to the top position, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT in Apple’s App Store, making it the most downloaded free application in the U.S. (ChatGPT is now in second place, while Google’s Gemini ranks fourth).
Recent Errors Addressed
This follows Donald Trump’s announcement that the U.S. government would cease utilizing Anthropic technology, including Claude. Subsequently, OpenAI struck a deal with the U.S. Department of Defense for the military application of its AI technology in “classified settings”.
