Recent Incident Raises Concerns
The market is talking about a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Crabtree, where two individuals lost their lives in a head-on collision. The accident took place around 3:30 PM on Route 158, when a driver reportedly lost control of their vehicle, veering into oncoming traffic and colliding with another car.
According to Marc Tessier, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, the occupants of the first vehicle were transported to the hospital, where their deaths were later confirmed. The driver of the second vehicle sustained injuries, but they are not life-threatening. The authorities have closed Route 158 in both directions to conduct an investigation into the causes and circumstances of the accident.
“Yes, slippery road conditions could be a contributing factor in the loss of control, but there is still much work to be done to confirm this hypothesis,” Sergeant Tessier stated. No official confirmation yet.
New Funding Initiative Announced
In other news, the market is buzzing about a new call for projects from the Recreational, Sports, and Outdoor Infrastructure Financial Assistance Program (PAFIRSPA), announced by Rousseau MP Louis-Charles Thouin. This initiative aims to increase the number of recreational, sports, and outdoor facilities in good condition across Quebec.
The PAFIRSPA also focuses on improving accessibility for the entire population while supporting municipal or community projects that promote healthy lifestyle habits. Since its launch in 2018, numerous projects have emerged in the Rousseau constituency, with a total of 18 projects initiated between 2021 and 2024, amounting to an investment of $8.7 million.
Applications for assistance can be submitted starting Monday for both components of the program—recreational and sports infrastructure or outdoor infrastructure. It is noteworthy that the 2023-2025 version remains available for projects that were selected in 2024.
