Metrobus Updates Proposed for South King County
The market is talking about significant changes to the Metrobus service in South King County, as King County Executive Girmay Zahilay has transmitted legislation to the King County Council. This proposal is part of the multi-year South Link Connections project, which aims to enhance the connectivity and reliability of the transit network across various cities.
With the recent opening of the Kent-Des Moines, Star Lake, and Federal Way Downtown Link light rail stations, the proposed Metrobus updates are expected to create a more integrated transit system serving Algona, Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Normandy Park, Pacific, SeaTac, Tukwila, and surrounding areas.
If approved, these changes would be implemented as part of Metro’s service change scheduled for August 2026. The proposal aims to align Metro bus routes with the new light rail service, expand operational hours, and reallocate resources to routes that serve the highest number of riders.
“South King County is one of the fastest-growing parts of our region, and we have a responsibility to make sure our transit system keeps pace,” said Executive Zahilay. He emphasized the importance of building a transit network that connects residents to opportunities and supports regional growth.
However, it is important to note that No official confirmation yet has been provided regarding the approval of these changes. As discussions continue, community feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the final proposal.
