What Happened
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of Kendamil brand infant formula sold online and at Costco due to potential contamination with cereulide toxin, which can lead to food poisoning. The affected products are one-kilogram containers labeled “with whole milk”. The recall was initiated following reports of similar issues in another country.
Why It Matters
Cereulide toxin is particularly concerning as it is heat-resistant and can survive temperatures that typically eliminate harmful bacteria. Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall, the CFIA is acting proactively to ensure consumer safety. This recall follows recent actions by Nestlé and Danone, which also issued recalls for baby formulas due to potential cereulide contamination.
What’s Next
Kendal Nutricare, the European-based company behind Kendamil, indicated that the toxin has been linked to a different oil supply used during a short supply disruption. The affected batches were produced in May 2025, and consumers are advised to check for product codes 897274 and 888632 located on the base of the tin. Parents and caregivers are urged to return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
